Charlotte Thorups værksted og galleri ligger på Svanekes øverste kant med udkig over marker til den ene side, og byens tage med havet som bagtæppe til den anden.
Det enkle og charmerende værksted i træ er tegnet og bygget af Charlotte Thorup og Morten Dyreborg og består af et åbent, fleksibelt arbejdsrum og et mindre galleri til udstilling af værker.
Charlotte Thorup’s studio and gallery are located on the very edge of the town of Svaneke on the island of Bornholm, with a view of open fields to one side and the urban roofscape against the backdrop of the sea to the other.
The simple, charming wooden studio was designed and built by Charlotte Thorup and Morten Dyreborg and consists of an open, flexible working space and a small gallery with some of her works on display.
Køkkenhaven udenfor er et frirum og Thorups anden passion, hvor konkrete opgaver lader tankerne fare og nye idéer spirer frem. På den anden side af haven findes lagerrum og keramikovne – og matriklen på Bornholm forener således funktion og fleksibilitet. Inspiration og refleksion.
The kitchen garden outside is Thorup’s second passion and a green oasis where hands-on tasks allow her mind to wander and new ideas to take shape. On the other side of the garden, she has stores and ceramic kilns, and thus, the site combines function and flexibility, inspiration and reflection.
“En fascination af gentagelser, rum og proportioner kommer til udtryk i mit arbejde med leret. Jeg skaber skulpturelle værker, der leder tankerne hen på arkitektur, geometri og mønstre. Jeg tager udgangspunkt i lerets basale kvaliteter. Ved at efterlade spor og mærker fra tilblivelsen bevares lerets kvalitet som materiale i værket.”
‘My works reflect my fascination with repetition, space and proportions. I create sculptural objects that spark associations to architecture, geometry and patterns. My work is guided by the basic properties of the clay. Process traces and marks are left visible as a way of preserving the material qualities of the clay in the finished object.’
